Movers Brixton is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, contractors, visitors and customers. This policy sets out our approach to managing health and safety across our removal services, including packing, loading, transport and delivery of goods for homes and businesses.
We recognise our responsibility to identify, control and minimise risks arising from our activities and to comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and industry best practice.
Health and Safety Objectives
Our objectives are to prevent injury and ill health, protect property and maintain safe operations throughout every removal project. To achieve this, Movers Brixton will:

Employee Responsibilities
All employees of Movers Brixton share responsibility for maintaining a safe working environment. Every team member must:
Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of colleagues, customers and the public.
Follow all health and safety procedures, training and instructions provided.
Use vehicles, tools, lifting aids and personal protective equipment correctly.
Report hazards, near misses, defective equipment and unsafe practices immediately to a supervisor.
Cooperate fully in accident investigations and health and safety reviews.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Risk assessments are carried out for all key removal and transport activities. These assessments consider manual handling tasks, access to properties, stairways, narrow corridors, loading and unloading areas, parking, traffic movements and environmental conditions.
Based on these assessments, Movers Brixton develops safe systems of work and method statements. Staff are briefed on these procedures and must not undertake tasks that fall outside their competence or agreed safe methods.
Manual Handling and Lifting
Manual handling is a core part of removal work and is carefully managed. Our approach includes:
Providing training in safe lifting techniques, team lifts and use of lifting aids.
Planning each move to reduce carrying distances and minimise the need for awkward lifts.
Using appropriate equipment such as trolleys, dollies, lifting straps and ramps wherever practicable.
Assessing the weight, size and stability of items before lifting and refusing unsafe lifts.
Encouraging staff to stop and seek additional help or equipment rather than risking injury.
Vehicle and Driving Safety
Movers Brixton operates vehicles that are suitable and properly maintained for removal work. Our measures include:
Regular inspection, servicing and maintenance of all vehicles.
Ensuring loads are distributed evenly, securely fastened and within weight limits.
Checking access routes, parking and loading areas to minimise collision and pedestrian risks.
Ensuring drivers are competent, hold the correct licences and follow road safety rules and company procedures.
Promoting safe driving practices, including adherence to speed limits, avoidance of fatigue and careful manoeuvring in residential and commercial areas.
Customer Premises and Public Safety
Our teams work in and around customer homes, offices and public spaces. To protect customers and the public, Movers Brixton will:
Plan entry and exit routes and keep them as clear and unobstructed as possible.
Use warning signs or verbal warnings where there is moving traffic, loading activities or trip hazards.
Take care to protect floors, walls and fixtures, and manage trailing cables or equipment safely.
Control access to working areas where possible to prevent unauthorised entry.
Work considerately to minimise noise, disruption and environmental impact.
Equipment, Personal Protective Equipment and Maintenance
All tools, lifting aids and removal equipment are selected and maintained with safety in mind. Movers Brixton will:
Provide appropriate personal protective equipment such as gloves, safety footwear and high-visibility clothing where needed.
Inspect equipment regularly and remove defective items from service immediately.
Ensure all equipment is used only for its intended purpose and by trained personnel.
Store tools, packing materials and other items safely to prevent falls or obstruction.
Training, Information and Supervision
Health and safety training is an integral part of employment at Movers Brixton. We provide:
Induction training for all new staff, covering key health and safety procedures and safe working practices.
Task-specific training for manual handling, use of equipment, vehicle safety and working at different types of premises.
Ongoing refresher training and toolbox talks to reinforce safe behaviours.
Appropriate supervision for less experienced staff and for higher-risk activities.
Accident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, incidents and near misses must be reported promptly to enable investigation and learning. Movers Brixton will:
Record relevant details of incidents and, where necessary, conduct formal investigations.
Take corrective actions to prevent recurrence and share learning with teams.
Maintain basic first aid provision and ensure staff know the procedures in the event of injury, fire or other emergencies.
Monitoring, Review and Policy Communication
This Health and Safety Policy is communicated to all employees and is available to customers and other interested parties on request. Movers Brixton reviews the policy regularly to reflect changes in legislation, industry standards, company operations and identified risks.
We are committed to continuous improvement and expect all members of our team to contribute to a safe, efficient and professional removal service.
